Electrical and Electronic equipment of any size or scale should not simply be thrown away when it comes to its end of life but must be disposed of at numerous special sites around the country.

Why recycle?

Unwanted electrical equipment is the Ireland’s fastest growing type of waste.

Many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and the environment. If you do not recycle, electrical equipment will end up in landfill where hazardous substances will leak out and cause soil and water contamination – harming wildlife and also human health.

To remind you that old electrical equipment can be recycled, it is now marked with a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Please do not throw any electrical equipment (including those marked with the crossed out wheeled bin symbol) in your bin.

Disposal

Products with this symbol may not be disposed of with the household waste. You are obliged to dispose of such units separately.

Contact your community authorities for information regarding the correct disposal of the product.

By disposing of the product correctly you are ensuring that it will be recycled or processed for reuse. This helps to prevent hazardous material from damaging the environment.

Customers can now recycle your WEEE and waste batteries with us.

If you’re buying a new electrical item in store, we will recycle your old one for free.

If you are buying a new electrical appliance remotely i.e. via our website or over the phone you can request we collect your  old WEEE appliance for free. Please email us and will will arrange pickup when your new appliance is delivered. You can also send your WEEE appliance to us at MTS Direct, Unit V6 Ballymount Ind Est, Dublin 12  D12E303. Note this take back is on a one-for-one basis. This means that the appliance being returned must be similar to the new item being purchased.

Disposing of the packaging

The packaging is made of cardboard which is also recyclable. Take these materials to a recycling centre or put them in your green recycling bin.

What is WEEE?

The Waste Electrical or Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive requires countries to maximise separate collection and environmentally friendly processing of these items. In Ireland, distributors (including retailers) must provide a system which allows all customers buying new electrical equipment the opportunity to recycle their old items free of charge. Those establishing their own take-back scheme must as a minimum offer all customers buying new electrical equipment free take back of their old electricals on a like-for-like basis.
